Sempre tive muita curiosidade sobre o tema “Carnaval de Veneza” e uma grande expectativa em minha vida em um dia conhecer ao vivo e a cores.
Acho que pelo fato de vir de uma família italiana, passar a minha infância e juventude ouvindo meu pai falar dos hábitos e cultura desse país, o meu amor pela Itália cresceu junto comigo. Sempre que posso volto para conviver e admirar a beleza, a arte, a gastronomia e o dia a dia de um povo alegre e brincalhão.
I have always been very curious about the theme of the “Venetian Carnival” and had a great desire to experience it myself one day, live and in full color.
I think that because I come from an Italian family, and spent my childhood and youth listening to my father talk about that country's habits and culture, my love for Italy grew along with me. Whenever I can, I return to share in and admire the beauty, art, cuisine and daily life of a happy and playful people.

Como a vida de um fotógrafo é deliciosamente dura, tive que acordar às 4:30 am, quando tudo estava absolutamente escuro e gelado ... mas ao chegar à praça São Marcos, vislumbrei os primeiros raios de luz da manhã numa gama de cores simplesmente inacreditável que me provocou suspiros, não só pela beleza da cena como por sentir que eu estava ali, naquele exato momento, realizando um velho sonho e principalmente, com minha câmera nas mãos.

Many shutter clicks, because the masked ones are extremely receptive—they are there to be photographed and to have the beauty of their costumes recorded.
As a photographer's life is deliciously hard, I had to wake up at 4:30 am, when all was absolutely dark and cold ... but when I arrived at São Marcos square, I caught a glimpse of the first rays of morning light in a simply unbelievable range of colors that made me sigh, not only at the beauty of the scene but also because I felt that I was there, at that very moment, making an old dream come true, especially with my camera in my hands.

Os figurinos não só representam nobres do séculos XVII e XVIII como também personagens da “Commedia Dell’Arte”, representações teatrais de toda a Europa neste período.

Por ser uma festa mítica, onde geralmente o mascarado não encara a sua identidade e sim uma grande fantasia interior buscando nos mitos explicações para seus conflitos, atrai e seduz um infinito número de pessoas locais, visitantes, curiosos e dezenas de fotógrafos como eu.
O Carnaval que dura em torno de 10 dias, é promovido pela elite financeira cultural e não de uma mobilização popular como algumas manifestações desta natureza.

Um fato histórico curioso é que o Carnaval em Veneza no século XI durava até 6 meses pois atrás de suas máscaras, no anonimato, se escondiam criminosos, os que cometiam adultério e atos de sedução. Por isto leis foram criadas para impedir sua habitual utilização e proibidas em definitivo no começo do século XVII.
A curious historical fact is that the Venetian Carnival in the 11th century lasted for up to 6 months, as its masks served to conceal criminals, those who committed adultery and acts of seduction. For this reason, laws were created to prevent their habitual use and they were definitively banned at the beginning of the 17th century.
